An AI interview can work well in a demo and still fail a candidate joining from a weak mobile connection. It can support Hindi but prevent the recruiter from adding Hindi questions. It can connect to an ATS without sending back the interview report the hiring manager needs.
This guide explains eleven checks for hiring teams in India, with examples of what to look for. It uses the same criteria as our comparison of nine AI interview tools and recommends three options to consider first.
1. Indian Languages
Ask for the languages available in the interview itself. A Hindi interface or transcript is different from an interviewer that understands spoken Hindi and asks follow-up questions in it.
Language switching matters too. A candidate may describe their experience in Hindi and use English for technical terms or a customer conversation. Check whether they can do that within one interview or must choose one language at the start.
Fabric example: Fabric supports 14 Indian languages and multiple languages within the same interview, including Hindi-English switching. For roles requiring spoken English, assess how well candidates communicate the work. Fabric's spoken-English assessment guide explains that evaluation in more detail.
2. Low Internet Support
Treat weak-network performance and recovery after a disconnection as separate questions. An interview might run on a slow connection but lose progress when the signal disappears. Another might save progress but require fast internet to continue.
Ask the vendor to show both behaviours. Start an interview on a weak connection, interrupt the connection during an answer, then reconnect. Check what the candidate sees, whether earlier answers remain available and whether they can continue from where the interview stopped. For a phone screen, check what happens when the call drops and how the candidate resumes.
Fabric example: Fabric supports weak internet connections and lets candidates resume interviews and screening calls interrupted by a network failure. Candidates do not need to start the whole interview again because the connection dropped.
3. Mobile Support
Check whether the full interview works on the candidate's phone. Opening an invitation on mobile is not enough. The microphone, camera, question display and any required tasks must work on that device too.
For a customer-support role, a phone conversation may cover the first screen. A developer may need a computer to write, run and explain code. Make the device requirement clear in the invitation, and distinguish an ordinary phone call from a browser interview that uses mobile data.
4. Conversational
Listen to what happens after a vague answer. If a candidate says they improved sales, the interviewer should be able to ask what they changed and how they measured the result. Moving straight to the next fixed question gives the recruiter less information.
A recorded video response and a two-way conversation are both useful formats, but they collect different evidence. Compare the specific product: several vendors sell both, sometimes in different plans.
5. Interview Customisation
Check how much of the interview the recruiter can change. Generating questions from a job description is useful; editing the questions and scoring criteria gives the team more control over what the interview measures.
For a sales role, the team may want an objection-handling exercise. For a developer, it may want a task using the relevant stack. Confirm that customisation works in the chosen language. For example, iMocha's Tara documentation lists Hindi as beta and disables custom questions for beta languages.
6. Volume and Campus Hiring
A campus drive can put many candidates into the process at the same time. Ask how invitations are sent, how many interviews can run concurrently, who handles incomplete sessions and how the team reviews the results.
Compare the quoted capacity with the busiest part of the drive. A daily interview allowance does not establish how many candidates can interview at once. Fabric's IIM campus example describes a drive that narrowed 83 screened applicants to 20 for the employer's final round. Our bulk hiring guide covers the wider workflow.
7. Cheating Detection
Ask which kinds of outside help the product checks for. Reading from another screen, using an AI answer assistant and having another person take the interview are different problems. A tool that detects one may not detect all three.
The recruiter should be able to inspect the relevant part of the interview before acting on a flag. Fabric flags signs of outside assistance, including phones, AI interview copilots and second screens. A network interruption should be investigated as a connection issue; it should not automatically be treated as cheating.
8. India-Specific Integrations
Start with the systems the hiring team uses, such as Darwinbox, Keka or Zoho Recruit. Ask what moves between the systems: the invitation, completion status, scorecard, recording link or all of them.
Separate a listed integration from a custom connection that needs implementation work. Also check the product and plan it applies to. Fabric lists Darwinbox, Keka and Zoho Recruit on its integrations page. Job-board access, including any Naukri requirement, should be checked separately from ATS integration.
9. DPDP and India Hosting
Confirm where interview recordings, transcripts and assessments are stored. Ask how candidates are informed about data use, how long records are retained and how deletion requests are handled. Put the agreed requirements in the contract.
India hosting answers the location question; it does not answer every DPDP obligation. Likewise, a security certification does not by itself settle consent or retention requirements.
Fabric example: India data hosting is available and is the default for customers headquartered in India. Teams can review the relevant security documentation through Fabric's trust center.
10. India-Specific Pricing
Compare the price for the interviews the team will actually run. Include the required languages, interview format, ATS connection and expected volume. Check how failed sessions and retries are charged, and whether implementation or support costs are separate.
A quote or a dollar price is not automatically a poor fit for an Indian buyer. Confirm the billing currency, invoice and tax treatment rather than assuming them from a price on a website.
Fabric pricing: Fabric's starter AI interview plan starts at INR 25,000. Other pricing is available on quote.
11. Technical and Non-Technical Interviews
For an engineering role, check whether the candidate can write and run code, discuss a bug and explain a technical decision. Answering technical questions alone does not demonstrate those tasks.
For sales or support, look for a customer conversation or roleplay. For operations, the interview might ask the candidate to work through a missed delivery or a process failure. Confirm whether these exercises happen inside the interview or require another product. Fabric supports live coding, sales roleplays and interviews for functions including marketing, operations and HR.
Three Tools to Consider First
Fabric
Fabric is our first recommendation for Indian-language interviews across technical and non-technical roles. It works on slow internet connections, supports Hindi-English switching and lets candidates resume after a network interruption. India hosting is the default for Indian-headquartered customers, and its integrations include Darwinbox, Keka and Zoho Recruit.
Its starter AI interview plan starts at INR 25,000; other pricing is available on quote. Teams can use outbound phone screening before a fuller interview with coding or role-specific tasks.
Talview Ivy
Consider Ivy when autonomous interviews need to sit alongside a wider assessment and proctoring setup. Its current product covers voice, video and live coding, with contextual follow-ups. Hindi is among its listed languages.
Before selecting it, confirm how Ivy handles weak connections and interrupted sessions, which mobile features are included, and the data location for the contract. Those details are not established by the general platform description.
iMocha Tara
Consider Tara when the team already relies on skills assessments and wants a conversational interview alongside them. Tara asks spoken follow-up questions, and iMocha's integration directory includes Darwinbox and Zoho Recruit.
The Hindi beta restriction is worth checking early: custom questions are disabled for beta languages. Also confirm which technical tasks need a separate assessment and whether the required ATS connection carries Tara's results.

Choose Around the Roles You Need to Fill
For engineering hiring, the interview should let candidates write, run and explain code. For sales, it should include a customer conversation or roleplay. Across both, candidates need to use the required language and recover their progress if the connection drops. The recruiter then needs the interview results in a form they can review and use.
Fabric covers these interview formats, supports language switching and works on slow internet connections. It is our first recommendation for teams with those requirements. Talview Ivy and iMocha Tara are also worth comparing when broader assessments are part of the purchase. Confirm the required ATS workflow, hosting and quoted cost before signing.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Should Indian Hiring Teams Check First?
Start with the role's tasks, the candidate's interview language, mobile access and low internet support. Then check question customisation, cheating detection, hiring volume, ATS integrations, data hosting and pricing. A coding interview and a sales roleplay require different tasks, even when the same platform offers both.
How Do You Test Whether an Interrupted Interview Can Resume?
During a demo, interrupt the connection after the candidate has answered a few questions, then reconnect. Check whether the earlier answers remain available and the candidate can continue without starting over. Test phone screening separately. Fabric supports resuming both interviews and screening calls after a network interruption.
Can Candidates Switch Between Hindi and English During an Interview?
Yes, Fabric supports Hindi-English switching and multiple languages within one interview. It supports 14 Indian languages as well as English. The language hub lists the available languages. With other tools, check whether language switching is supported or the candidate must use one language throughout.
Does Fabric Offer India Data Hosting?
Yes. India data hosting is available and is the default for customers headquartered in India. Hosting location is one part of the data review; the contract should also address candidate consent, retention, access and deletion.
What Should Recruiters Receive After the Interview?
Recruiters should be able to review the candidate's answers, task performance and any cheating flags before deciding who moves forward. Fabric provides the recording, transcript and assessment. For an ATS integration, confirm which results and links are sent back to the system your team uses.
