Quick answer

  • For phone support roles (voice process): Choose AI interview software that assesses spoken communication, comprehension, and how candidates respond to customer questions.
  • For chat and email support roles (non-voice process): Choose software that tests how candidates write replies to customer queries over chat, email, or tickets.
  • For blended roles (phone, chat and email): Choose software that tests both spoken and written communication.
  • For back-office roles: Choose software that tests accuracy, attention to detail, and how well candidates follow process instructions, using tasks such as KYC checks or data entry.
  • For high-volume recruitment: Choose software that can interview large batches of candidates without requiring a recruiter to conduct every first-round interview.
  • For multilingual hiring: Choose software that supports the exact languages your candidates need for the job, and test it with real examples.

Fabric is one option to evaluate if you want AI phone screening, AI interviews with customer role-play, written-response tests, and interview-integrity checks in one workflow. In our BPO fit scoring, Fabric scores 87/100, followed by Testlify (76) and Harver (64). The alternatives address different parts of the hiring process, so the right choice depends on what your BPO needs to assess.

A new training batch starts in three weeks, and you need every seat filled. Hundreds of people have applied, but your recruiters can only speak to a fraction of them each day.

Some applicants get a short screening call. Others never get one. By the time candidates reach the floor, you may discover that some struggle to understand customers, explain solutions, or handle a difficult conversation.

The problem isn't just the number of applications. It's that you need to assess how candidates communicate before hiring them, and you need to do it at scale.

AI interview software can help by conducting first-round interviews and giving recruiters structured evidence to review. Here's what to look for and how nine tools compare.

Why BPO hiring needs more than résumé screening

A résumé can tell you about a candidate's experience, education, and previous roles. It cannot tell you how well that person will handle a customer conversation.

Traditional résumé screening often relies on keywords and basic eligibility criteria. These can help narrow down applications, but they don't establish whether someone can understand a customer's concern, explain a solution clearly, or respond calmly when a customer is frustrated.

The next step is usually a phone screen or interview. But when you're hiring hundreds of people for a batch, asking recruiters to speak to every applicant creates another bottleneck.

AI interviews can help by giving candidates a first-round assessment before they reach a recruiter. The assessment should resemble the work they'll actually do, rather than asking only generic interview questions.

What you need to assess depends on the work agents will do. BPOs in India usually call this the process; in the Philippines, it's the account. Most BPO roles fall into four groups:

Four kinds of BPO role, four ways to assess them

Find the one you are hiring for: it decides what the interview has to test.

Phone support

Voice process

Agents talk to customers on calls, whether they take incoming calls, make outgoing ones, or both. Candidates need to understand what the customer says, explain clearly, and stay calm on a live call.

Assess them in a spoken interview.

Chat and email support

Non-voice process

Agents write to customers over chat, email, or support tickets. Candidates need to write clear, accurate replies quickly.

Assess them with realistic written tasks.

Phone, chat and email support

Blended or omnichannel

Agents switch between calls and written channels during a shift.

Test both.

Back-office roles

KYC, data entry, claims

Agents handle KYC checks, data entry, claims, or transaction processing, usually without speaking or writing to customers. Candidates need accuracy, attention to detail, speed, and the ability to follow process instructions.

Assess them with tasks taken from the process itself.

For phone support roles, a realistic customer scenario can reveal more than asking candidates how they would handle a difficult customer. For chat and email roles, asking candidates to write a reply to a billing complaint or delayed-refund query gives recruiters direct evidence of their writing ability. For back-office roles, a short task such as checking a customer document against a record shows how carefully a candidate works.

The goal is to identify which candidates should progress to the next round, not to let software make the final hiring decision.

What should AI interview software do for a BPO?

Evaluate each tool against the following requirements.

1. Handle high interview volumes

The tool should help you assess large batches without waiting for recruiters to become available for every first-round interview.

Ask vendors about concurrent interviews, completion rates, retry handling, and how quickly they can process your expected volume. Don't assume that a vendor supports unlimited interviews just because it offers automation.

Ask: How many interviews can we run in parallel, and how long would it take to assess 500 candidates?

2. Assess spoken communication for phone support roles

For phone support roles, the tool should assess how candidates speak and respond to questions. Depending on the job, this may include comprehension, clarity, listening, explanation, empathy, and responses to follow-up questions.

Ask to see the scoring rubric and a sample report. A tool that records a candidate or transcribes an answer does not necessarily assess communication quality. Some tools score only the words in a transcript, so a candidate's clarity and listening never reach the score.

Ask: Can you demonstrate how the software evaluates a candidate for a customer-support voice role?

3. Assess written communication for chat and email roles

For chat and email support roles, candidates should demonstrate how they would respond to customer queries in writing.

Look for tasks involving realistic customer interactions, such as explaining a billing error or responding to a delayed delivery. A generic text interview is not necessarily a written customer-support assessment.

Ask: Can candidates write customer replies, and how does the tool evaluate them?

4. Test back-office skills

For back-office roles such as KYC checks, data entry, or claims processing, candidates rarely deal with customers directly. What matters is accuracy, attention to detail, speed, and how well they follow process instructions.

Look for tasks that mirror the work, such as checking a document against a record or entering details from a form.

Ask: Can we test candidates on tasks from our own process, and how are accuracy and speed scored?

5. Simulate customer interactions

A candidate may give a polished answer to "How would you handle an angry customer?" without being able to handle one in practice.

Role-play allows candidates to respond to a simulated customer problem. It can help recruiters assess how they clarify an issue, explain a solution, and respond to frustration.

Ask: Can we use our own customer scenarios, such as a late refund or billing complaint?

6. Support the required languages

A tool's language count is less useful than knowing whether it supports the languages required for your process.

Ask vendors to demonstrate interviews in the languages you hire for. Also check how they assess different accents and whether their evaluation focuses on job-relevant communication rather than accent conformity. Speech recognition makes more errors on Indian-accented and conversational English than on standard US speech, so ask how transcription errors are kept out of the score.

Ask: Which exact languages do you support, and can we review sample interviews in each one?

7. Detect fraud and cheating

Fraud checks and cheating detection are related, but they are not the same.

Two different checks

Ask a vendor which of these it does, in which interview format.

Fraud checks

Can help identify impersonation, identity mismatch, deepfakes, or another person taking the interview.

not the same as

Cheating detection

Can help identify suspected AI assistance, outside coaching, or other unauthorized help during an assessment.

Treat an integrity flag as a signal for review, not automatic proof of misconduct.

A tool that flags tab switching does not necessarily detect AI-generated answers. Ask which checks work in each interview format.

Ask: What exactly do you detect, what evidence does the recruiter receive, and which interview formats are covered?

8. Integrate with your ATS

Recruiters should be able to access interview scores, reports, transcripts, and relevant flags without manually copying information between systems.

Ask: Which ATS systems do you integrate with, and can you demonstrate the results appearing on a candidate record?

Additional capabilities: sourcing, outreach, screening, and scheduling

These features can save recruiters time, especially when hiring at scale. However, they should come after the core assessment requirements.

  • Candidate sourcing: Can the tool find candidates, or does it work only with applicants you already have?
  • Outreach: Can it contact candidates through channels they use, such as email, SMS, or WhatsApp?
  • Résumé screening: Can it screen for job requirements and eligibility before an interview?
  • Scheduling: Can it arrange interviews automatically and manage candidate availability?

Ask: Which of these steps does the platform handle, and which still require other tools or manual work?

Take these into every vendor demo

Best to evaluate for: High-volume BPO hiring across phone, chat, email, and back-office roles.

Fabric tests spoken English two ways. Its AI phone screening reaches candidates on an ordinary phone call or WhatsApp, with no app, link, or camera needed. Its AI interview goes deeper, with follow-up questions and customer role-play, such as an angry subscriber threatening to cancel. For chat and email roles, candidates write replies to realistic customer queries. Fabric also interviews for back-office roles such as KYC and data entry.

Fabric judges how clearly a customer would understand the candidate, not where their accent comes from, and maps spoken English to CEFR levels.

Interviews run in English (Indian, American, British, Australian, and Singaporean), Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Tagalog, Spanish (Latin American), Portuguese (European), German, Croatian, and Japanese. Various English accents is supported as its own variant so candidates are understood in their own accent rather than measured against an American one.

Every candidate gets a shareable scorecard. Integrity checks cover deepfakes, a second voice in the interview, and AI-assisted answers.

Fabric also handles candidate sourcing, outreach, résumé screening, eligibility filtering, and scheduling. These reduce manual work, but the first question is whether its assessment matches your hiring requirements.

Fabric is also SOC2 Type 2 and ISO 27001:2022 compliant with strict adherence to India’s DPDP act.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • Pricing is quoted by volume. There's no public per-interview price.

What to verify: Concurrent interview capacity at your batch volume, and how results appear in your ATS.

Best to evaluate for: Skills assessments and customer-support simulations.

Testlify combines a library of pre-employment tests, including English, typing, and customer-service tests, with AI interviews over chat, voice, video, and phone. Its BPO assessments cover voice and non-voice support as well as back-office processing. Its chat interviews include customer-support simulations in which candidates respond to scenarios through chat. It suits teams that want several types of assessment in one platform.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • Its CEFR English test is aligned by Testlify itself and isn't certified or accredited by the Council of Europe.
  • The AI phone interview starts inside an online assessment: the candidate enters their number, then receives the call. Calls are billed per minute.
  • Pricing is credit-based. Extra credits are charged one by one and unused credits expire, so costs climb quickly at batch volumes. Large volumes need a custom plan.
  • There's no Hindi or Tagalog test content.

What to verify: Customer simulation capabilities, security checks, and total cost at your annual candidate volume.

Best to evaluate for: Structured assessments for BPO and contact-centre roles.

Harver's BPO recruitment solution includes spoken-language assessments, written English assessments, live-chat support simulations, and realistic job previews. Its assessment library adds agent simulation and typing tests, and its written English assessment includes automated scoring and optional AI-answer detection.

Harver is especially relevant if you want a structured assessment process, as distinct from a conversational AI interviewer.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • Its spoken-language assessment is scripted: candidates repeat words and read aloud, with optional open answers. It isn't a two-way customer call, and it covers English, French, and Spanish only.
  • Its contact-centre simulation runs over chat. There's no voice-call simulation.
  • Entry pricing starts around $35,000 a year, with about two months of setup, which suits large BPOs more than mid-size ones.

What to verify: Whether you need separate assessments or a conversational AI interviewer, implementation time, and integration with your hiring workflow.

Best to evaluate for: Automated phone interviews and multilingual hiring.

HeyMilo runs AI-led screening with a BPO-focused offering. Its AI phone interview calls candidates on their phone or runs through browser audio, with adaptive follow-up questions and ATS-ready scores, transcripts, and recordings. Language support varies by product: 14+ languages for phone interviews and 20+ across the platform.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • Browser interviews need Chrome or Edge and a stable connection. Candidates get one attempt by default, and anyone who drops out late in the interview can't rejoin.
  • There's no pronunciation or fluency score. The scorecard rates communication clarity only.
  • There's no customer role-play or written customer-reply task. Its skill assessments are scenario-based questions.
  • Deepfake and identity checks sit in a separate fraud product, outside its phone interviews.
  • There's no Darwinbox or Keka integration.

What to verify: Local calling numbers in your hiring countries, language coverage, and pricing at your volume.

Best to evaluate for: AI phone screening alongside human-led interview services.

InCruiter runs AI interviews with follow-up questions, automated screening, and candidate reports, with deepfake and second-voice detection. Its AI phone screening calls candidates automatically and falls back to WhatsApp when a call is missed. Its AI video interview is a separate, link-based product.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • Its AI video interview converts spoken answers to text before scoring, so there's no pronunciation or fluency score.
  • There's no customer role-play or written customer-reply task.
  • Its proctored volume-hiring flow requires screen sharing, which most phone browsers don't support.
  • There are no published accuracy figures for its deepfake detection.
  • Interview packs cost roughly ₹2,000 or more per credit. Enterprise volumes need a quote.

What to verify: Which product (phone screening or video interview) your quote covers, and available languages.

Best to evaluate for: Enterprise hiring with AI interviews and assessment workflows.

HireVue's AI Interviewer runs a two-way conversation with follow-up questions, role-specific scoring, and ATS workflows. The wider platform adds recorded video interviews, assessments including game-based tests and job tryouts, scheduling, and fraud controls. It suits larger BPOs that need structured evaluations alongside enterprise governance and human oversight.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

What to verify: Phone-call versus browser-based delivery, and the fraud controls in your chosen product.

Best to evaluate for: Browser-based AI video interviews with customer role-play for English and European-language roles.

The Cognitive runs two-way AI video interviews that candidates book and take in a browser. For customer-support roles, it role-plays customer scenarios and reviews written chat responses for tone, accuracy, and clarity.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • There's no phone channel. Candidates need a browser and a camera.
  • It supports European languages only, with no Indian languages or Tagalog.
  • Plans cap how many interviews run at once, and unused credits don't roll over, so uneven batch hiring is hard to budget.
  • There are no email-reply tasks or back-office tests.
  • There's no identity verification or deepfake detection. Flags such as tab switches are logged for review only.

What to verify: Concurrent interview capacity at your volume, ATS integrations, and current pricing.

Best to evaluate for: Structured text-based interviews.

Sapia.ai runs chat-based interviews in which candidates answer questions in their own time, with candidate insights, integrations, and interview scheduling.

Text interviews suit roles that depend heavily on written communication. But they don't show how a candidate speaks, understands a customer over a call, or responds in a live spoken conversation.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • It scores typed answers only and never hears the candidate. Its video stage isn't AI-scored, so hearing candidates takes human review.
  • There's no customer role-play.
  • Candidates flagged for AI-written answers get a warning and can rewrite their answer.
  • Data is hosted in Australia, Ireland, and the US.
  • A starter package is published. Enterprise pricing needs a quote.

What to verify: Whether text-based assessment is sufficient for your role, how written responses are evaluated, and which integrations and languages are available.

Best to evaluate for: Candidate engagement and interview scheduling.

Paradox focuses on conversational recruiting and workflow automation. Its assistant screens candidates and helps them find interview times through channels such as text, chat, and email.

This is useful when coordinating candidates is slowing down recruitment. However, scheduling an interview is different from conducting a spoken AI interview or assessing how a candidate handles a customer conversation. Its low score reflects BPO assessment fit, not its strength as a scheduling tool.

Limitations for BPO hiring:

  • Screening happens by text, so it doesn't assess spoken English.
  • Conversations are auto-translated across 100+ languages, which helps candidates finish but gives you no signal on their English.
  • There are no skills tests, role-plays, or fraud checks.
  • Pricing is quote-only.
  • Paradox has been part of Workday since October 2025. If you run another ATS, check its integration roadmap.

What to verify: Whether you need Paradox for candidate engagement alongside a separate assessment or AI interview tool, and how it integrates with your current systems.

How we scored the tools

Each tool is scored on ten factors drawn from the requirements in this guide. Every factor is worth 10 points, for a total of 100. Each factor gets one of four grades:

  • 10: Fully meets the requirement
  • 7: Meets it with a gap
  • 4: Partly meets it
  • 0: Doesn't offer it

Scores are based on each vendor's product information as of October 2026. A capability that a vendor doesn't offer in its product information scores 0. The score measures fit for BPO hiring, not a tool's overall quality.

How do you choose the right tool for your next hiring batch?

Start with the role, not the vendor's feature list. Pick two or three tools that meet your core requirements, then run a pilot using the same assessment criteria.

Run a pilot in nine steps

Two or three tools, one live batch, the same criteria for each.

  1. Pick one live batch.Choose a phone support, chat and email, or back-office role you're hiring for now.
  2. Define what good performance looks like.Agree with operations and training teams on the skills candidates need.
  3. Test realistic scenarios.Use examples from your actual process, such as a delayed refund, billing error, difficult customer interaction, or KYC document check.
  4. Run real candidates through the assessment.Compare the tool's results with the judgment of experienced recruiters and, where possible, operations or training evaluators.
  5. Review the evidence.Check scores, transcripts, recordings, written responses, and integrity flags. Compare pass rates across regions and accents to check that the tool isn't penalising accent rather than communication.
  6. Test accessibility.Confirm that candidates can complete the interview using the devices and internet connections they actually have, and track completion rates on low-cost Android phones.
  7. Check the ATS workflow.Make sure recruiters can access results without manually copying information.
  8. Plan an identity check.Decide how you'll confirm that the person who interviewed is the person who joins the training batch.
  9. Compare the total cost.Ask for a quote at your expected volume and clarify charges for completed interviews, call minutes, additional assessments, and integrations.

A good pilot should show whether the tool helps your team identify candidates with the skills the role requires, not simply whether it can process applications quickly.

If you also want to automate sourcing and outreach, compare those features after establishing that the interview and assessment capabilities meet your needs.

FAQ

What is the best AI interview software for BPO hiring?

The best tool is one that assesses the skills your process requires at the volume you hire. In our BPO fit scoring, Fabric scores highest at 87/100, for AI phone screening, AI interviews with customer role-play, written-response tests, back-office interviews, and interview-integrity checks. Testlify (76) and Harver (64) follow. Compare your shortlist using a pilot on your own candidates.

What is the difference between voice and non-voice process in a BPO?

In a voice process, agents talk to customers on phone calls, whether they take incoming calls, make outgoing ones, or both. In a non-voice process, agents don't take calls: they write to customers over chat, email, or tickets. Back-office roles, such as KYC checks, data entry, and claims processing, are also often grouped under non-voice, though agents in these roles usually don't deal with customers at all. A blended or omnichannel role mixes calls with written channels. In the Philippines, the same split is usually called a voice account and a non-voice account.

Can candidates take an AI interview on a phone call without a laptop?

Some tools can, but delivery varies. Fabric's AI phone screening runs on an ordinary phone call or WhatsApp, with no app or camera. HeyMilo and InCruiter also call the candidate's phone. Testlify's AI phone interview starts inside an online assessment. The Cognitive has no phone channel, and recorded video interviews such as HireVue's need a camera. Ask each vendor whether its AI places an outbound call and whether candidates need mobile data, a camera, or an app.

Can AI interview software simulate an angry customer?

Some platforms do. Fabric and The Cognitive run customer role-plays in their AI interviews. Harver and Testlify run customer-service simulations over chat. Ask for a demonstration using a situation from your own process and check how the candidate's response is evaluated.

How much does AI interview software cost for a BPO?

Pricing depends on candidate volume, interview format, assessment features, integrations, and contract terms. As of October 2026, Testlify publishes credit-based plans, InCruiter publishes interview packs, and Sapia.ai publishes a starter package. Fabric, Harver, HireVue, and Paradox price on quote. Ask for pricing based on your monthly candidate volume and clarify whether you pay for completed interviews, call minutes, incomplete interviews, or separate assessments.

Can AI interview software detect cheating?

Some tools check for AI assistance, impersonation, deepfakes, or other suspicious behaviour. These are different checks, and availability depends on the product and interview format. Ask vendors exactly what they detect and what evidence they provide. An integrity flag should prompt review, not automatically disqualify a candidate.

Does AI interview software make the final hiring decision?

No. AI interview software can conduct an initial assessment, organize evidence, and provide scores or recommendations. The recruiter or hiring panel remains responsible for the final hiring decision.
